art II Final
- Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. Were the choices you made regarding material, size, technique, etc beneficial to enhancing this project. Please explain.
My most successful project was most likely my perspective pen and ink. The theme I choice for that piece was a futuristic space theme where the observer was looking out from the cockpit of a space ship. In front of the ship was a star-gate to a far off galaxy. In order to create this piece I started out by looking for many different reference pieces on the internet. I saw a few with star-gates but I didn't like how you couldn't see inside of them. I also saw a few different perspectives on how people placed the camera or cut off the edges. I then came up with the idea of having the view from the inside of the ship. My choice in material I chose pen and ink. I liked using this because the small details you can get on the paper. I then had to decide on what method of shading I would use. I really liked how stippling made the work appear very realistic and lifelike. So I chose that way of shading, in the end I liked how it turned out. When making the piece I think the size was perfect any bit larger I think it would have taken me longer to make the piece without any real benefit. My favorite
- Look at your body of work over the semester and choose 2 pieces that show your growth as an artist. Discuss each piece and how you grew in the following areas: application of materials, techniques and skills, artistic vision, use of the principles and elements, creativity, intuition and subject matter.
The two pieces that I chose for to show my growth was my first piece the graphite glass bottles and the colored pencils landscape scene. First of all I grew in the application of materials because my first work I smeared a lot of graphite in places that shouldn't have had it. I was not as neat and careful as I should have. Second thing is that I used very little technique in making the first one I just shaded and drew what I saw. In my newest piece I went through and tried something I had never done before which was more like a stippling and thin lines drawing. This allowed me to make the trees and bushes look very realistic and lifelike. I also had a better frame or view. I chose the second pieces frame so it would look good in the space provided the first piece was just the first thing I saw. I think I was very creative in my newest piece because of the way I made the colors in the water drag and flow. I also liked how there was actually color in the second piece not just graphite like the first.
- Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you needed more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain. (if you do not have a photo for this just answer the question without one)
For our first mini project we were assigned to shade various shapes with different techniques. This was helpful in allowing me to see what the different possibilities of shading in pen and ink. This in turned allowed me to use stippling in my next piece which made it look much better than I would have ever imagined. I had no clue how to shade in pen and ink before this project and came out of it knowing a lot about shading and using it in my work.
For the second mini project we used colored pencils to make various shapes in different colors and shade them. This was key in allowing me to get a handle on colored pencils. This also taught me how to use different colors to make the colors pop. This project I feel was very important and helpful in me making my landscape in colored pencils. I personally think my work would have not been as good as it is currently without this project.
